Abstract

Quantum Computing is considered the next frontier in computing, and it is attracting a lot of attention from the current scientific community. These technologies introduce new mechanisms, based on quantum mechanics, to solve a wide variety of problems more efficiently, from those traditionally solved by means of machine learning and optimization to simulation. By leveraging quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement, quantum information processing and pure quantum or hybrid algorithms (both classical and quantum procedures interplaying) are expected to achieve a speed and/or precision advantage in modeling machine learning systems and solving complex optimization problems. As a result of the growing interest in this field, quantum computing has already been successfully applied to a multitude of use cases, with industrial problems being the main representative.

The Q4ML-Opt special session, to be held during IDEAL 2024 conference, aims at fostering discussions around the latest findings and research achievements, as well as the exchange of novel ideas in the imbrication of Quantum Computing with Machine Learning and Optimization fields. In addition to that, works related to quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithms will be also considered.

Topics

With all this, interested colleagues are invited to submit contributions via the IDEAL 2024 submission system,with an emphasis on (but not limited to) the following topics:

  • Hybrid classical-quantum methods for addressing optimization problems.
  • Quantum Machine Learning Approaches.
  • Quantum algorithms and complexity.
  • Application of Quantum Annealers for solving real-world oriented problems
  • Development of quantum-gate based methods (QAOA, VQE…).
  • New mathematical formulations of complex optimization problems to be addressed by quantum
    devices (transportation, supply chain & logistics; medicine & precision health; quantum genomics;
    quantum finance, services & portfolio management; manufacturing & mining).
  • Classical evolutionary algorithms for the design of quantum computers.
  • Latest advances of quantum-inspired computation, especially for optimization, machine learning and deep learning.

Only submissions with original contributions with respect to the state of the art related to the
aforementioned areas will be considered for its inclusion in this session, i.e. special session papers will be treated under the same criteria as regular conference papers. Oral presentation at the conference will be mandatory for accepted papers to be included in the proceedings.
